DAVID LUIZ RETURNS TO CHELSEA
David Luiz is a Chelsea player once more
having completed a return to Stamford Bridge following two years at
Paris Saint-Germain.
On signing a three-year contract, he said: 'I'm delighted to return to Chelsea. We had a fantastic story during my first time at the club and I want
to help the team and Antonio Conte achieve a lot of success.
'I always had a wonderful relationship with the fans and I am looking forward to wearing the blue shirt at Stamford Bridge once again.'
The addition of the versatile and talented Brazilian to our current squad provides Antonio Conte with a number of options as the Blues look to build on our strong start.
David Luiz enjoyed a fruitful two seasons in France, winning a host of honours and helping PSG dominate the domestic game there, as well as playing against the Blues in the Champions League in both 2015 and 2016.
He was a hugely popular figure among Chelsea supporters during his previous spell at the club due to a combination of his fierce determination, technical ability and a penchant for spectacular goals. His first in a Chelsea shirt was a fine strike in a 2-1 win over Manchester United and fans will also remember a stunning strike away at Fulham in 2013. En route to Europa League success he scored vital goals in both legs of our semi-final win over Basel, the second of which was a fantastic left-footed effort from distance.
A year earlier, on our way to lifting the Champions League, he was also integral to the fortunes of the team.
In the never-to-be-forgotten comeback against Napoli, David Luiz and John Terry stood firm as the Italians chased what could have been a decisive second away goal, and having missed both legs of the semi-final against Barcelona through injury, he returned for the Munich final, playing through the pain barrier for 120 minutes and scoring in the penalty shoot-out as we were crowned European champions.
